About me

Hey there, I’m Tobias!
I stumbled upon the amazing world of Open Source, privacy, security and self-hosting back in December 2020, and let me tell you, it’s been an absolute blast ever since. I owe a lot of my inspiration to awesome communities like r/homelab, r/selfhosted, and some privacy-focused Telegram channels. They’ve fueled my curiosity and kept me engaged in learning.

It all started in December 2020 with my first project, Umbrel, which was a Bitcoin and Lightning Node at the time. From there, I couldn’t resist diving deeper into the rabbit hole. I quickly got hooked on Docker and began exploring a bunch of other cool stuff on my Raspberry Pi. It was like opening a Pandora’s box of tech wonders.

My passion for tinkering and learning landed me a gig at an in-house IT service desk not long after. Of course, my Raspberry Pi collection had to grow along with my newfound job. I mean, can you blame me? Shortly after, I proudly owned a total of four of those little wonders.

But you know what they say—once you start, you can’t stop. And I certainly couldn’t stop there. A year later I invested in some shiny new gear to switch over to Proxmox. It’s been a game-changer, allowing me to explore even more exciting possibilities.

Throughout my journey, privacy, security and the utilization of open-source tools have remained at the forefront of my focus.
Last year, I embarked on a mission to distance myself from the clutches of big tech companies like Google and Meta, embracing open-source alternatives that align with my values. My Google Pixel now happily runs on GrapheneOS, while my notebook and workstation rock Fedora. Proxmox is my go-to hypervisor, and Opnsense keeps my network on lockdown. You get the drift.

Get ready to buckle up and hop on board for this thrilling journey of learning and exploration! There’s an abundance of knowledge to acquire, endless opportunities to explore, and, above all, loads of fun to be had. Together, let’s embark on a mission to expand our horizons and make our learning adventures more awesome, one step at a time!

In this blog, you’ll come across tutorials with detailed explanations, as well as quick code or config snippets without much fuss. It’s kind of my personal documentation space, but hey, if it ends up being useful to you too, that’s awesome!
I’m on a mission to document my path towards a more sovereign and independent digital life, and I’ll try my best to share what I have up and running whenever time permits.
